Nasolabial folds are the natural lines that extend from the sides of the nose towards the corners of the mouth. Their appearance varies between individuals and can become more noticeable over time due to changes in facial structure, skin quality and the distribution of facial volume.

The appearance of nasolabial folds can be influenced by the cheeks and surrounding mid-face, which is why I consider the area as part of the face as a whole rather than assessing the fold in isolation.

WHY NASOLABIAL FOLDS CAN CHANGE OVER TIME

Nasolabial folds are a normal part of facial anatomy. Their depth and appearance can be influenced by several factors, including:

• Individual facial anatomy

• Genetics

• Changes in cheek and mid-face volume

• Changes in skin quality and elasticity

• Facial movement

• Age-related structural changes

• Natural facial asymmetry

 

There is significant variation between individuals, and having visible nasolabial folds does not mean that treatment is required.

Changes noticed around the nasolabial area may be related to surrounding facial structures rather than the fold alone.

During consultation, I may consider the relationship between the nasolabial area, cheeks, mid-face, lips and overall facial proportions where relevant to your concerns.

This full-face approach allows your concerns to be assessed in the context of your individual anatomy rather than focusing on one feature in isolation.
